Sarasota Communities

While Sarasota County is comprised of the cities of Sarasota, Northport and Venice, the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay islands attract an eclectic mix of writers, artists, business moguls and beach people. Buyers who can afford to live anywhere in the world will choose to own a home or condominium here. They are drawn to the water, birds, marine life and arts scene. Casey Key, Siesta Key, Bird Key, St Armands Circle, Lido Key and Longboat Key captivate visitors with their sunsets, glistening water and white sand beaches and before long those visitors become part-time or full-time residents.

The beaches are stunning but there is also a stimulating intellectual scene, a thriving arts community, an abundance of outdoor activities, independent restaurants and a thriving food and wine culture, ample shopping from big boxes to bespoke. One third of the county is made up of parks and protected land. It feels different than most of Florida because there are open vistas of bays and beaches, greenspace and working ranches. The air is clean, bird and marine life are plentiful, and people are friendly.
Downtown Sarasota has a cosmopolitan feel and big city amenities wrapped graciously in a small town package. Historic Venice is a little slower paced and smaller scale with fabulous beaches, shopping, restaurants, golf courses and opportunities for adventure and relaxation outdoors. Northport is a quickly developing, inland residential area that appeals to families and retirees.

The cultural assets are extraordinary for a county of 390,000 people. A professional symphony, ballet, opera, more than 10 live theaters and 30 art galleries. The John and Mabel Ringling Museum of Art, Ringling College of Art and Design, New College-the honors college of Florida, USF-Sarasota Manatee and State College of Florida open their doors to students but also engage the community with speakers, classes, galleries and events. Hundreds of events include the Sarasota Film Festival, Thunder on the Bay, Florida Winefest & Auction, The Modern Pentathalon, Sand Sculpting, Sarasota Chalk Festival, Exotic Car Festival, Ringling International Arts Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and more.
